Wall design in history

Even in Pompeii, the luxurious houses of the upper classes were decorated with murals. The ancient Romans recognized the effect of color and brought life to bare walls. They decorated their walls with mock-architectural pictures, fake pillars, cornices and columns with sophisticated light and shadow effects. Walls were decorated with landscapes, magnificent gardens and adjoining rooms. The depictions were quite liberal in their choice of motif and technique.
From the Middle Ages onwards, frescoed murals were created, primarily depicting symbols and cycles of biblical history. At this time, the contractors were often anonymous and artists in the modern sense worked as craftsmen.

Mural design experienced its heyday during the Renaissance. To this day, countless works by masters such as Giotto, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael still exist. In today's digital age, traditional wall design still has its appeal. There are many possibilities to realize your desired picture with different motifs.
