What does an animal painter do?
An animal painter is an artist who specializes in depicting animals—often as individual commissions for pet owners. The tradition of animal painting stretches back a long way and has been shaped by renowned artists, including:
-
George Stubbs (1724–1806) – known for his realistic depictions of horses in the 18th century.
-
Rosa Bonheur (1822–1899) – French animal painter of international renown, famous for cattle and wild animals.
-
Franz Marc (1880–1916) – German Expressionist whose colorful animal depictions are world famous.
-
Sir Edwin Landseer (1802–1873) – British painter, famous for portraits of dogs and wild animals, including the lion statues in Trafalgar Square.
-
Bruno Liljefors (1860–1939) – Swedish animal painter, known for dramatic scenes of wildlife in the wild.
As a modern animal painter, I take up this tradition and combine it with an individual, contemporary style that shows your animal as a unique being.
What is the difference between a photograph and a painted animal portrait?
A painting is more than an image: it brings expression, character and an artistic touch that a photograph cannot provide.
Which animals do I paint?
I paint pets such as dogs, cats and horses, but also small animals, birds and exotic animals – according to your wishes.
Does my pet have to sit still for this?
No. I only work with photographs that you provide me.
How long will it take for my pet portrait to be finished?
Depending on the technology and format, it usually takes 3 to 5 weeks.
